ACOUSTIC FINGERSTYLE

about l'eveil

L’eveil is a music and literary world: a ten-album arc, a body of prose and imagery, and a prospective manuscript all emerging from the same underlying expression.

The word L’eveil first appeared in 2016 after watching Werner Herzog’s Cave of Forgotten Dreams, a film about the discovery of Chauvet Cave in Southwest France, where some of the oldest known human paintings had remained sealed in darkness for more than 30,000 years. That discovery felt strangely personal, as if some part of myself had been buried there too.

Years later, the word returned during a kind of unraveling. A quiet desperation. The recognition that I had built a mask woven from the fibers of fear, doubt, external validation, and the need to be legible to others. That mask was not my reflection, and so it began to fall away.

I began to write, often in the very early morning hours, in the dark, when it seemed the rest of the world was still asleep. Over the course of five years of consistent writing, a ten-album arc revealed itself as a movement through self-betrayal, contemplation, grief, death, renewal, connection, and return.

There is an inherent struggle to describe this work because the direct experience has felt profound, and language seems capable of carrying that experience only so far. Explanation, at some point, begins to flatten the very life it is attempting to outline.

For that reason, L’eveil will not be maintained as an active Instagram or social media project on any platform, and social media pages exists simply to orient anyone following the project’s path. L’eveil will live through this official website, Bandcamp, streaming platforms, physical releases, and direct correspondence and interaction.

This is by no means intended as a withdrawal from connection, but rather a decision to steward the spirit of L’eveil in a way that honors where it came from, and a hope that others can interact with this project rather than consume it.
